Sound Meter Pro is part of the Smart Tools® collection and is available as a standalone application. The advanced version, Smart Meter Pro, has been recently introduced. While Sound Meter Pro will continue to receive updates, new users are advised to opt for the latest version.

This SPL (sound pressure level) meter app utilizes your device's microphone to gauge noise levels in decibels (dB) and provides a reference point. We have meticulously calibrated various android devices equipped with an actual sound meter using dB(A).

It is important to note that most smartphone microphones are optimized for human voice frequencies (300-3400Hz, 40-60dB). Consequently, the maximum detectable value is restricted by the manufacturers, and extremely loud sounds (100+ dB) may not be accurately captured. Devices like Moto G4 (max. 94), Galaxy S6 (85dB), Nexus 5 (82dB) exhibit these limitations. Users can rely on the results within typical noise levels (40-70dB) and should treat it as a supplementary tool.

The Vibrometer function harnesses the sensors in your phone to measure vibrations or seismic activity, showcasing corresponding references akin to a seism detector.

The recorded values correspond with the Modified Mercalli Intensity scale (MMI). In cases of inaccuracies, calibration can be performed to cap the maximum value around 10-11. As there exists a wide spectrum of android device performance and sensitivity levels, it is advisable to employ these results simply as a point of reference.

The Pro version comes with additional features such as ad-free experience, integration of Sound Meter and Vibrometer functionalities, a statistical menu with line chart display, CSV file exporting capabilities, customizable line-chart duration, and calibration for more models.
